In this novel, though, someone said, "Don't get gay with me," meaning something like, "Don't try to kid me."

David, probably only Clark Gable could get away with that, even back then.

I.J., thanks for setting us straight on that.

Oscar, I'm reading a couple more of his books before deciding what to make of him.Ron Scheerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15357501069513854664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-88512357201099788512010-11-10T14:33:17.381-08:002010-11-10T14:33:17.381-08:00I hadn't heard of Mr. Cullum and it feels like...I hadn't heard of Mr. Cullum and it feels like I'm missing out on something.Oscar Casehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10328166606910469945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-50689434928962915722010-11-10T13:08:57.623-08:002010-11-10T13:08:57.623-08:00Dyke Hole... Oh dear.
I was intrigued to hear of ...Dyke Hole... Oh dear.

I was intrigued to hear of cricket being used in a western. I've often wondered about trying it but have never dared.

I was bit worried though about the referee calling a foul as cricket has umpires and it's a sport that never had fouls. That's the whole ethos of the game. It's for gentlemen of good breeding. This very week the game has been dominated by fixed games and death threats, but definitely no fouls!I.J. And "Gay" used to mean a very different thing too.Charles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.com
