A couple of westerns I read earlier were set in small towns with a few wooden buildings and a handful of characters which didn't make my reading of the novels any less interesting. I'm not a fan of the early pulps written by writers who had never been east of the Hudson, but enjoy Western frontier books by writers who had actually experienced the West.
