And RIDE LONESOME is the best of the bunch. Like you said, Ron, everything so spare ... When Van Cleef finally figures out what Scott is up to, he says to his men: "I did him a hurt once that I almost forgot about" --- the *hurt* being the murder and hanging of Scott's wife. Those few words paint the picture of an extremely hard man, one who scarcely remembers doing such a harsh act. Later, when Van Cleef is pleading for his brother's life he points out that "he's just a boy" ... to which Scott replies: "He's as old as his gun." Steel hard right back ... I could recite practically every line of this movie. One of my all-time favorites ...
