And that for a man of the cloth. Not enough has been written about the hardship these people had to endure on the frontier. TV Olsen did a good job using people of mixed race as the central character in some of his best novels.michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07631731846526639966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-36774292708334423182013-03-15T10:14:23.937-07:002013-03-15T10:14:23.937-07:00Concerning captive whites, I've read that diff...Concerning captive whites, I've read that different tribes treated prisoners in different ways. Some were adopted into the tribe and treated with respect, especially children and some women.

However, I've also read that torture was often used especially on adult males. There was some type of sacrificial routine and often Indians just wanted to see if the enemy would meet death bravely and in a stoic manner, or screaming and crying for mercy. I've read many accounts of soldiers being advised to save their last bullet for themselves rather than being captured.

Scalping and mutilation of the bodies was also practiced by some tribes. It's hard to generalize about capture by Indians but I probably would have saved a bullet rather than be captured.

I'm rereading LONESOME DOVE right now and the indian Blue Duck, is enough to make your blood curdle.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.com
