Nice range for a cowboy actor; could be cold and stern or warm and quick with a smile.

Todd, I'd go with Walker's advice on that score. I'm not authority on mid-century western fiction.

Prashant, it's definitely your typical western with the "good" parts well done.Ron Scheerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15357501069513854664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-46482843213799273852012-05-22T22:34:30.288-07:002012-05-22T22:34:30.288-07:00I don't recall seeing a Randolph Scott western...I don't recall seeing a Randolph Scott western before. This one seems like a typical western flick with fistfights and gunfights that looks appealing to me. Thanks, Ron.Prashant C. At one time he was one of the best of the western writers in the pulps, especially writing alot for SHORT STORIES and WEST in the late 1920's and early 1930's. He went on to the slicks and died an early death at age 51 in 1950. You can still find his work easily available in vintage western paperbacks. Like so many paperbacks they are inexpensive.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-53520892175814595852012-05-22T18:09:35.509-07:002012-05-22T18:09:35.509-07:00Is Haycox worth seeking out? I've read a couple of his short stories, and know he was once a major name, but nothing about those stories is coming back to me at the moment...Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-25424735540873808182012-05-22T13:40:36.884-07:002012-05-22T13:40:36.884-07:00I definitely have to disagree with Charles. He looks the part, wears the clothes, knows how to ride a horse, talks like a man of the west.

If I had to pick my favorite western actor, Randolph Scott would definitely be in the running for top spot. I've only seen MAN IN THE SADDLE a couple times; this post has reminded me it's time to watch it again.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3434602314756730550.post-65921254044047927082012-05-22T08:54:50.466-07:002012-05-22T08:54:50.466-07:00Randolph scott just never looked western to me.
